Dinos not in the finals

A 7-5-2 record was enough to get the Dinos women’s soccer team to the playoffs in Vancouver this year. The girls managed to finish the playoffs in second place after a huge upset victory over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Sat., Nov. 6 and losing to the Trinity Western University Spartans the following day.


The Spartans cleaned up shop 4-0 over the Dinos to move on to compete at Nationals in Montreal this upcoming weekend while our girls return home, proud of their season’s achievements. After last year’s growing pains, the girls certainly had their work cut out for them as they struggled to find their niche in a highly competitive Canada West league. With a strong first half of the season, the girls were able to demonstrate their coming of age and despite a string of injuries to key players, our Dinos were able to keep their heads above water during the second half.


For their achievements this season, five Dinos were named Canada West All-Stars: Full back Erin Ramsay and midfielder Megan Dourado of the Dinos were named to the First All-Star team. Ramsay is noted as one of the more physical players in the conference and is constantly considered one of the top defenders in CIS women’s soccer. Ramsay is making her second appearance on the First All-Star Team along with co-captain Dourado. Dourado has been recognized for her phenomenal play in the midfield and her leadership both on and off the field.


Goalkeeper Charlotte Sullivan, midfielder Jessica Horning, and forward Stephanie Hoogveld of the Dinos were named to the Canada West Second All-Star Team. Sullivan lead all league goalies with six shutouts during conference play and was key to the Dino’s success this season. Horning made her second appearance as a Second Team All-Star after demonstrating her determination, skill and sportswomanship. Hoogveld was the team’s top goal scorer and her powerful kick and dominating speed helped her land her first appearance as a second team all-star.


The Canada West playoffs wrapped up the girls’ season. Watch out for them again next year, as they return many key players and hope to dominate the West.
