Filmmaker, An Invitation to an Accident

By Myke Atkinson

Living in the middle of nowhere, Saskatchewan must leave people with a lot of time on their hands. Luckily for you and me, the members of Filmmaker have decided to put this time towards polishing their tunes for their first full-length release.

On An Invitation to an Accident, the band lays claim to the pop-punk genre with their blend of tight, hard-hitting riffs, mixed with catchy and intelligent lyrics that are personable and accessible at the same time. While the group’s rock hooks are luring, where Filmmaker truly shines is on their lighter ballad-like tunes, such as “Goodnight Suicide.” It’s on these songs that lead singer Carl Johnson gets to work his magic and make all the emo kids cry–a skill he’s had a lot of time to practice.
