Noise Therapy, Tension Tension

By Sara Grawbarger

Many members of the older generation might call this noise, however, metal connoisseurs know better. In terms of the genre, Noise Therapy’s Tension is a solid disc.

The vocals vary from screaming to layered melodies to the sweet whine of an artist in pain. Together with the drums and guitar they evolve as they build up to climax, then drop, only to take off in a completely different direction.

For the most part, the lyrics deal with relationships and the hurt they bring. The band utilizes repetition of beginnings of lines as a tactic through many of the tracks to convey a sense of angst. This is effective, although in excess it leads to a loss of momentum.

Tension, while not the most innovative record, is energetic and musically well executed. It will be interesting to hear what Noise Therapy chooses to explore in the future.
