SU View: 2006-2007 Students' Initiative Competition

Publication YearIssue Date

Do you have a great idea of how to improve the student experience at UofC? Is there a service you always wish the Students' Union or your faculty provided, and are you willing to write up a short proposal for the chance to win a semester of free tuition? The Students' Initiative is an SU run competition that asks UofC students to submit proposals on how to improve their university experience. All it takes is a 3 page proposal outlining your great idea and you're on your way to winning money towards the bookstore or a free semester of tuition!

The Students' Initiative competition is in its second year. It was formerly run by the university under the title of "The Presidents' Challenge," Since the Presidents' Challenge contest first began, the UofC has received over 300 excellent proposals - the results of some of which are visible on campus today. 2005 marked the last year of the university run program and 2006 marked the first year of the Students' Initiative.

Last year's winner submitted a great proposal addressing the need for a financial advisor to help students deal with debt, scholarships and advise them how to make the most of their limited funds. Do you have another great idea for UofC? If so, check out www.su.ucalgary.ca or stop by the SU office in MacHall to pick up an application form.

Applications are due into the SU office or sent in electronically by 4:00 on February 26, 2007.
