The weather outside is frightful, But the fire's so delightful, Since you've no place to go,

drink some nog, drink some nog, drink some nogggggg!

If the idea of sweaters, nog, and the yule log playing on every television in the Den doesn't get you in the

holiday mood, you should drop by the What's Up? Space to grab a snow cone or some hot chocolate on the 3rd and 4th. We'll be pumping out

some sweet tunes and giving away free stuff that will turn that exam frown upside down.

Election season has come to an end. In the last year, we have gone to the polls and elected new (the same) municipal, provincial and federal governments. By and large, Calgarians, Albertans and Canadians have opted for the status quo.

Reflecting on the events of the last twelve months, I take satisfaction in knowing that the pundits were wrong, and students are not apathetic.

From Van Gogh to Pachibel and Swan Lake to Cats, join the Students' Union from Nov. 17-21 for Arts Fest '08 where none of these famous artists and performances will be shown.

The focus this year will be on demonstrating the work of students from the University of Calgary. Similar to last year's success, a Fringe Festival atmosphere has been created with multiple artists in multiple venues. A schedule of events can be picked up from the Students' Union Office. All events are happening in MacEwan Student Centre

We've had a federal election. The SU byelection will be a done deal by the time you read this and our neighbours to the south of the border will elect their new president in early November. But the opportunity to make your voice heard and influence your future, especially here at the U of C, has not passed.

As your Students' Union President, I represent you at the University Board of Governors-- the body that makes all the financial and operational decisions for this university.

Caffeine. Taping your eyes open and propping your head up with a book in front of your computer. Reading an entire textbook the night before an exam and waking up with the text print backwards on one side of your face. These are all examples of ways students try to make it through mid-term season. However there is one other proven technique that you could consider-- study!

Because I have survived my fair share of mid-term seasons at the U of C, here's a number of ways to develop good study habits:

This year, the Students' Union is going green. From our events to our business operations, SUstainability is what we're all about. We're taking big steps to reduce our eco-footprint and we want to help you do the same.

Currently, the Students' Union Sustainability Board is funding a composting pilot project, revamping its sustainability policy and using recommendations from last year's waste audit to reduce the organic, plastic and paper waste generated by MacHall.

SU View: Got (affordable) housing?PDF files may take a moment to load

I hope that everyone reading this is living in safe, affordable housing now that we are back to school. Unfortunately, not every student has access to this basic necessity. The government needs to recognize and act to address the unique housing needs of students.

There are several groups in our society including seniors, persons with disabilities and low income families, that have been identified as "at risk" for not having safe and affordable accommodations. Students are also at risk.
