The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team combined for 12 goals in two exhibition games last weekend, while their opponents managed only four.

Hockey fans got their first glimpse of the 2008-09 incarnation of the Dinos when the team beat the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 6-3 at Father David Bauer Arena.

The game was plagued with penalties from the start and the play lacked flow­-- evidence that both teams were still looking for their groove after the summer off.

Coming off of back-to-back 3-0 victories and heading into their last game of the regular season, the University of Calgary women's hockey team was looking to sweep their season series with the NAIT Ooks and enter the playoffs riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak. However, fate seemed to be against the Dinos Sat., Feb. 12 at Father David Bauer Arena, as nothing seemed to go right and the team wound up on the losing side of a tight 4-3 decision.

Oops, they did it again. The University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs have locked up the last playoff spot in the division, but it was a bittersweet success. The Dinos suffered their third straight sweep in the post-secondary Battle of Alberta Feb. 9-10 in a home-and-home series. The University of Alberta Golden Bears took the series opener in front of their home crowd with a 3-2 victory, and clawed their way to a 4-3 shootout triumph the following night at Father David Bauer Arena.

After splitting a pair of games versus the SAIT Trojans last weekend, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team faced another inner-city rival, the Mount Royal College Cougars at the Olympic Oval Fri., Jan. 26. The Dinos played a strong game all night only to give up the game-winning goal with 3:29 left in the third period, deciding their fate in another heartbreaking loss, 3-2.

"This was a game we should have won," said Dinos assistant coach Lonnie Vuckovic. "It was right there for the taking."

After spending several weeks ranked tenth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, the University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs now find themselves unranked after being defeated in consecutive games by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The Huskies took the opening game of the Jan. 26-27 series with a 4-2 victory, and stole a hard-fought game the following night with a 3-2 upset.

  Men's Hockey: Hockeysaurs lose LukinPDF files may take a moment to load

The Dinos men’s hockey team bid farewell to one of their own this week, as forward Jarret Lukin departed the team for sunnier climes. The East Coast Hockey League’s Florida Everblades officially announced Lukin’s signing Mon., Jan. 29.

Lukin had been absent from the Dinos line-up for quite some time, last appearing Nov. 25 in the team’s 6–2 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns. Dinos head coach Scott Atkinson believes the move was best for both Lukin and the team.

With the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference playoffs just around the corner, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team knows that every game is crucial for determining playoff positions.

The Dinos waged war against one of their inner-city rivals, the SAIT Trojans, this past weekend. Each team won one, and the Dinos grabbed a much-needed two points.

  Road trip split for men's hockeysaursPDF files may take a moment to load

The University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs hit the open prairies the weekend of Jan. 19-20 to take on the University of Regina Cougars, in a rink similar to a barn with a frozen puddle inside. Each team walked away with a hard-fought, lop-sided win, with the Cougs taking the opener 4-2 at the Sherwood Twin Arenas, but were doubled up the next night in a 6-3 Dinos triumph.

  Women's Hockey: Second half starts slow for 'SaursPDF files may take a moment to load

After consistently improving over the first half of the season, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team went into the second half hoping to start the semester off on the right foot by winning their first weekend series, a pair of games against the Grant MacEwan Griffins.

Unfortunately, the time off must have been a bit much for the young Dinos, as the team showed major signs of rust over the weekend, losing both games by wide margins.
