The men's hockeysaurs received an early Christmas present at the end of the first half of the season, with news of the addition of Arizona Sundog Torrie Wheat to the squad in the upcoming year. Along with his leadership and professional experience, Wheat joined the University of Calgary men's hockey team with an impressive offensive history, an area the Dinos have been looking to improve over the last few games.

The barbecues were alight and the claws sharpened Jan. 5-6, with the University of Calgary hockeysaurs ready to take their first victim of the new year. After suffering an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the University of Alberta Golden Bears during the final week of play before the holiday break, the Dinos looked to turn their fortunes around against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

Christmas came to the rink early Dec.1-2, but the University of Calgary men's hockey Dinos must have done something to get on Santa's naughty list. The Dinos were robbed by the University of Alberta Golden Bears Friday night in a 2-1 defeat in front of frozen fans at Father David Bauer Arena, and were shovelled aside with the dirty Edmonton snow in a 5-3 loss the following night up north.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns froze in the frigid Calgary temperatures, as the University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs ice-picked them apart in their home-and-home series finale.

After suffering a tough 4-3 shootout loss in Lethbridge Friday night, the Dinos skated all over the lambs in a dominant 6-2 Saturday night victory to wrap up the series with strong special teams, sharp-shooting offence and seemingly effortless goaltending.

Revenge is sweet, but seldom easy. After losing 3-0 Friday night at Centennial Arena, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team came within inches of gaining retribution by defeating their biggest rivals, the Mount Royal Cougars, Sat., Nov. 4. The Dinos eventually fell short at the Olympic Oval, finishing on the losing end of a 3-1 decision.

There was carnage in the air and Cougar steaks on the barbeque, as the University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs roared their way to the top of the Canada West standings, with a sweep of the University of Regina Cougars in their Nov. 3-4 weekend series. The Dinos dominated the opening game with a 3-0 spanking and picked their teeth clean of kitty meat Saturday night with a 5-4 win, but not before five rounds of nerve-wracking shoot-outs.

The weather may be getting colder, but the University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs just keep getting hotter. The Dinos extended their winning streak to five games, sweeping the fourth ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies in their Oct. 27-28 weekend series.

The young University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team played in another home-and-home split this past weekend, this time versus the Red Deer College Queens. The Dinos left the weekend still hunting for their elusive first victory, but showed serious signs of improvement following up their 3-1 loss Thur., Oct. 19 by fighting tooth and claw Sat., Oct. 21, leaving with a 2-2 tie to show for it.

Don't let the score sheets and statistics fool you. The University of Calgary men's hockeysaurs dominated the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, sweeping the Oct. 20-21 home-and-home series, although the scores reflected close contests. The Dinos won 7-6 in Lethbridge Friday night despite being outshot 33-48, and put away the Pronghorns in front of fans at Father David Bauer Saturday night with a 5-4 victory.

The University of Calgary men's Dinos played two very different games with two very different results their opening weekend against the University of Manitoba Bison, Oct. 6-7. They split the series with a 7-5 Dinos victory on Friday night, followed by a hard-fought 2-1 defeat the following night.
