The tennis team had a great bunch of individuals, but unfortunately they had few match winning players. Kasia Kwiatkowska was the team's boom first-year recruit with several wins under her belt. Spencer Laird suffered a horrific leg injury that required 50 stitches. But he did that skiing, not playing tennis. I just mentioned it because people like to read about sports injuries.

Fourteen members of the cash-strapped Dinos tennis team squeezed into a 15-seat bus and traveled down to Washington over reading break to play a series of doubles and singles matches against four American schools.

The little bus they went in had enough space to fit their tennis racquets, but evidently not enough room for the Dinos' A-game. Only the women's doubles squads were able to collect any wins during their week of matches in the alliterative city of Walla Walla, Washington.

The Dinos tennis team failed to win either the men's or women's Western Canadian Tennis Championship titles Sat., Nov. 12, losing to the University of Alberta. The Golden Bears beat the Dinos men six matches to two while the U of A women's team won six and defaulted three because of an ineligible player. Our lady Dinos only managed one win from co-captain Kelly (Deuces are Wild) Gordon. Jeremy Johnson and captain Eliot (French Twist) Bouvry were the two Dinos men's winners.

Anyone with experience will tell you not to date a tennis player, despite how they appear on TV. Love means nothing to tennis players. But until you've dated someone with fuzzy green balls in their shorts, you might not hear about the Dinos tennis team.

Kelly Gordon hopes our mixed tennis squad will change all that by winning the Western Canadian Tennis Championships Nov. 11-12 at Calgary's Rico Tennis Academy.
