The consequences of out-sourcing have not only affected Food Services employees but upset Albert Union of Provincial Employees Local 52 executive council as well. Shirley Maki ousted Local Chair Albi Sole from his position at the Local's annual general meeting, Mon., Mar. 7. Sole had been under fire from union members over the decision to contract out food services.

While Maki and Sole both argue the election upheaval is unassociated with the Chartwells decision, they admit that chair is a political position.

In Calgary, bands seem to believe if they scream their frustration at angst-ridden 14-and 15-year olds loud enough, they can establish a cult-like following. Bands falling out of that category find it difficult to make a name for themselves. However, two former members of a junior high wrestling team, their buddy from high school and a drummer from British Colombia found through the classifieds--otherwise known as Safe on a Satellite--look to dispel the present recipe for success in the local music scene.

Editor, the Gauntlet,

Having just read the account of "strippergate" in the Calgary Herald, I must write and offer kudos to your paper for standing your ground. As a former editor of a university paper, I appreciate not only the importance of free speech, but the role papers such as yours play in exposing the absurdities of life. And the absurdities as I understand them are?

Editor, the Gauntlet,

As someone over 50 years of age and not connected at all to the university, I don't understand why everyone is - once again - shooting the messenger. In the original Calgary Herald story, University of Calgary's Rebecca Sullivan, in the Faculty of Communication and Culture, was quoted as saying the Gauntlet had a responsibility to the community. "They [the Gauntlet] are refusing to take a responsible, mature position on these issues."

Editor, the Gauntlet,

I must express my concerns over the offensive and degrading photograph published in the Mar. 3 issue of the Gauntlet on page five.

It is incomprehensible that this sexually explicit photograph would be considered appropriate by the editorial staff of this university paper. It speaks to the morally corrupt character and mindset of the Gauntlet staff. Time and time again this publication has chosen to feature demeaning advertising and articles toward women.
