Wanted: one new Club Committee Chair

By Toby White

The Students’ Union needs a new voice for clubs. Club Committee Chair Greg Hovdebo resigned and the race is on to replace him.

"I have been informed that I am not well," annouced the ever-unorthodox Hovdebo at the Oct. 8 meeting of the Students’ Legislative Council. "This fact has been communicated to me by my bowels."

"Mr. Hovdebo was facing health problems that made it difficult for him to attend classes, let alone carry out the duties of the Club Chair," clarified SU Vice-President Operations and Finance Natasha Dhillon.

Nominations for the position are open until Nov. 9. Dhillon encouraged anyone interested in clubs to fill out a nomination package. Duties include chairing the Club Committee, holding office hours and attending SLC.

"The Club Chair is the main liaison between the SU and clubs," said Dhillon, "The success of clubs depends directly on this position."

Dhillon hopes interest in the position will be high, as the chair makes a valuable contribution to student life on campus.

"I feel this is one of the most important positions in the SU," explained Dhillon. "Clubs are composed of the most active students on campus and we have to ensure those individuals have the appropriate resources."

There will be a candidate’s forum Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. in the MacEwan Student Centre North Courtyard. The election will take place outside from 1-4 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 19. Each club receives one vote, to be cast by an executive member.
