With lyrics like these, you know it’s going to be an interesting ride with Birch’s solo debut, Funmachine. Although probably not a contender for album of the year, you’ve got to give the guy some credit-his tunes are catchy. Listeners easily lip-synch the first single, "Moola, Moola," in cars across Canada as we speak.
The fifth track, a mellow ballad called "Beatrice," is quite lovely. If Birch would stray just a little further away from the synthesizer and produce a few more tracks like "Beatrice," his album would be alright. However, unless titles such as "Dope Changes Everything" inspire something deep and introspective within yourself, leave this one for the pop teens.
