When it’s Dark and it’s Summer

By Myke Atkinson

If only adult contemporary was any good, this would be what it sounded like.

Complete with ooh’s and ahh’s, When it’s Dark and it’s Summer is an album that forces you to sway along to p:ano’s full acoustic and piano ballads. By far, the highlight track on the disc is the song “Be Flat,” which incorporates everything from a trumpet to a musical saw, while still staying in a realm where the orchestration does not get out of hand. From start to finish, headman Nick Krgovich shows that he fully understands how to write not just songs, but compositions.

I’m not sure whether it’s me growing into my old age and turning down the volume knob, but p:ano has definitely struck a chord with this one.
