The Dinos came out firing early and often this past weekend against their road weary opponents from the coast. The UBC Thunderbirds posed no threat on Friday, as the Dinos attempted to burn out the lights in the score clock.
The team spotted their netminder Aaron Baker a four goal first period lead, while chasing UBC goalie Chris Levesque straight to the bench with a sunburn. After a penalty-filled second period that saw the Thunderbirds score their lone goal, the Dinos came back with a vengeance in the third scoring three more unanswered
goals en route to the 7-1 victory. The team had numerous offensive contributors with Phil Barski leading the charge, scoring three points and Jason Boyd firing home a pair of goals.
Game two of the weekend series was a much different story, but the outcome was the same. UBC licked their wounds from the night before and came out ready to play. Calgary jumped out to the early lead on a Phillipe Choiniere goal, only to give up a powerplay goal midway through the second period.
The teams then swapped goals–Calgary’s coming while shorthanded–only to have UBC reply 32 seconds later on the same powerplay. However, after an Adam Loncan powerplay goal early in the third period, goaltender Aaron Baker made several key saves on UBC breaks to preserve the victory.
With the sweep, the Dinos record improves to 10-8-2 . They’ll look to add a few more to the win column when they travel down the road to face the Pronghorns for a pair of matches this weekend in Lethbridge.
