To be honest, I didn’t quite know what to expect from these guys when I was handed the CD–cracked-out sadistic metal or more tie-wearing, pop-rock Avril guppies.
To my glorious surprise, it was neither.
This California-based trio, known for their dark, mood-inspired rock, live up to their reputation. The release of their 2003 album, Take Them On, On Your Own, is filled with a combination of aggressive guitars and dramatic lyrics, coming together to create an upbeat, original sound, with the exception of a few tame and somewhat melancholic songs.
A few highlights are "Stop," "We’re All in Love," and "Rise or Fall," where evidence of the band’s savage rock stylings shine through. These guys have actual talent, and put it to good use, so I suppose it just goes to show you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But the bottom line remains–good band, crappy name.
