Food for needy students

From Nov. 19 to 20, the Students’ Union will be hosting its 15th annual holiday food drive.

SU Vice-President External Lauren Batiuk is leading the club-based activity, which raised approximately $6,000 last year.

“This event is used to raise food and money for the food bank because the holidays are typically strenuous on the food bank,” Batiuk said. “We hope to raise $5,000 and have the ability to purchase a fridge.”

In previous years, the event included activities like a silent auction and a Twister game. This year, the focus for the holiday season has shifted solely to club activities, while the silent auction event is planned for next semester.

“The project will involve clubs competition and all of the student body,” said Batiuk. “Clubs will be competing to raise the most money from the student body and the most food donations.”

Activities of note are a food pyramid-building competition, and a banner-making competition.
