Lunch with Weingarten


University of Calgary students and faculty have a rare chance to grill the man at the top.


U of C President Dr. Harvey Weingarten will address staff, students and the public Thu., Jun. 2 in Science Theaters 148 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The name of his discussion is “39 Going on 40” and Weingarten will discuss the university’s past and plans for the future. Attendees are invited to pack a lunch.





Students cash in on Royal Visit


In addition to the highway named after her, Queen Elizabeth II also has a new scholarship bearing her name.


The Alberta Provincial Govern-ment is creating the “Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship Program” to commemorate the Royal Visit.


Approximately 300 scholarships worth $3 million total will be awarded to masters and doctorate students.





Niemczewska nets another honour


University of Calgary Dinos women’s volleyball superstar Joanna Niemczewska is one of 16 players selected nationwide for the Canadian National “A” Team.


Niemczewska has won a string of past honours including the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005, and the U of C Female Athlete of the Year twice.


Niemczewska makes her National Team debut at the Canada Cup tournament June 2-6 in Winnipeg.
