Board of Governors

Bryndis Whitson must be frustrated with Nic Porco by now. This year marks the third time the two are running against each other. The frustration for Whitson is that she always seems to be one step behind the SU stalwart-and this year’s BoG race is no different.

Experience

A two-year veteran of the SAA, Whitson is more experienced than many of the candidates running for Executive positions, but has two knocks against her. The fact that she wasn’t involved in the SU last year is the first and that Porco has much more experience than she does is the second-and most important. While her time spent with the SU as well as time spent in other campus organizations prepares her well for the position, it isn’t enough to top Nic Porco.

Platform

Most of her ideas were quite vague, except when it came to communication. Setting up information booths and phone banks in MacEwan Hall is an ambitious and very hands-on approach to raising student awareness about and involvement in the BoG’s biggest issue-tuition. However, when it comes to ideas to bring to the actual meetings, Whitson falters. Her approach and knowledge of anything beyond tuition ranges from vague to non-existent and that is a big problem.

Intangibles

Whitson has by no means an imposing or influential persona. She is not forceful or overly articulate, both necessary assets when dealing with a body like the Board of Governors. She is unfortunately ill-suited for the role of BoG representative, especially when compared to her sole competition, Nic Porco.
