In the battle for volleyball greatness Jan. 28-29, the Dinos women's volleyball team faced off with their nemesis the University of Alberta Pandas, to gain supremacy. The two teams have been rivals for what seems like forever, but the weekend showed which team is truly the best as the Dinos came back both nights to win 3-2.

One thing that is not hard to find on the Dinos women's volleyball team this season is praise for star player Joanna Niemczewska. The fact that fourth year just won Canada West player of the week may seem impressive to most, but as Dino Janelle Findlay aptly puts it: "Jo's athlete of every week."

A showdown between rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos and University of Alberta Golden Bears, always raises the stakes of a match, and men's volleyball contests Jan. 21-22 were no exception. The Dinos men headed north to face the top-ranked Golden Bears on Friday, hoping to salvage some points in the last few weeks of regular season play.

The Dinos men's volleyball team was back in action at the Jack Simpson Jan. 21-22 with a pair of matches against the number-two seeded Trinity Western University Spartans. Looking to gain some valuable points down the home stretch, the Dinos were hoping to improve on their 4-10 season record.

Despite bitter prairie temperatures below 50 degrees and despite playing with the wrong game ball, the Dinos women's volleyball team had another winning weekend Jan. 14-15.

The results of the season have motivated some people to ask: "Can they lose?" The Dino's are still holding the reigns as number one in the country and remain undefeated in the regular season. With an astounding 14-0 record, the path to repeating last year's victory as the National Champions is looking like a walk in the park.

Practice was a quiet affair Mon., Jan. 17, for the Dinos men's volleyball team. With a roster decimated by the flu and worse yet, the injury bug, getting back to work following a split with the University of Manitoba Bisons Jan. 14-15 was business as usual for the road-weary team. After a grueling road trip over the holiday break, Head Coach Greg Ryan believes his squad rallied in the second match against the Bisons because of the lessons learned over the previous few weeks.

While most of us were reveling in New Year's festivities, the Dinos men's volleyball team was battling it out on a road trip of epic proportions. The Brian Mallard Invitational tournament at the University of Saskatchewan got the ball rolling Jan. 1, as the Dinos faced the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in their opening match. With strong play early on, the Dinos took advantage of the lagging Wesmen defense, rolling to victory in four sets, 25-17, 32-30, 19-25 and 25-15.

In a battle as history-worthy as a Superman vs. Martha Stewart showdown, the Dinos women's volleyball team clashed with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Jan. 7-8. Ranked first and second in Canada respectively, the teams came out determined to keep their perfect 10 records alive. Every melee must name a winner; fortunately for our ladies, that's just what they are.

Saturday Dec. 4 was a huge night for the Dinos men's volleyball team. They won a thriller in front of an ecstatic home crowd, snapping their losing skid by stomping the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in five sets.
