For most Calgarians, a trip to the west coast of Canada is a rewarding experience. For the University of Calgary women's soccer team, it was disastrous. The lady Dinos lost 2-0 to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and followed up with a 3-1 loss to the University of Victoria Vikes. The Dinos lacked offensive punch and defensive solidity in the losses.

The University of Calgary Kickoff weekend was not the homecoming the Dinos women's soccer team wanted as they drew their first match 1-1 with the University of Alberta Pandas on Saturday. They followed up with a 3-2 loss to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at the West Varsity soccer pitch.

That's the message University of Calgary men's soccer coach Andy Gibbs sent after his team failed to clinch their first win of the season last weekend.

The toughest soccer division in Canadian Interuniversity Sport had their playoffs Nov. 4-5 in Edmonton, and the University of Calgary Dinos men's team earned their spot after a grueling season.

The Dinos opened the weekend Saturday with a 1-0 upset over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, and then ended their weekend with a disappointing 4-1 loss at the hands of the Trinity Western University Spartans.

The Dinos men's soccer team had it tough this past weekend with a 2-1 loss against the University of Victoria Vikes Sat., Oct. 28 and a 3-0 loss against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Sun., Oct. 29.

Saturday Carlos Cruz scored the Dinos only goal in the first half. Cruz headed a deflection off a Vikes' defenceman following a Dinos throw-in. Minutes later the Vikes answered back with a successful header putting the score at a 1-1 draw entering the second half.

The teams of British Columbia found the pot at the end of the rainbow Oct. 28-29. Instead of being reduced to giggling, nonsense-talking dopes with the munchies, the University of Victoria Vikes and University of British Columbia Thunderbirds found the necessary strength to send the Dinos women's soccer team home with a loss, a tie and a goofy smile in their pair of matches over the weekend.

The Dinos women's soccer team went into their final set of home games Oct. 21-22 having won three and tied two on their home turf while avoiding any losses. However, like any resilient plague, it became evident that a loss was impossible to evade forever.

This past weekend the Dinos men's soccer team hosted their final two home games, a 1-1 draw against the University College of Fraser Valley Cascades on Sat., Oct. 21 and a 1-0 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Sun., Oct. 22.

The Dinos single goal of Saturday's game was scored by Adam MacDonald and assisted by Matthew Reid and Ryan Holbrook. Holbrook had two opportunities himself, but both proved unlucky. The Dinos dominated and out-shot the Cascades throughout the game.

The Dinos men's soccer team hosted two games this past weekend, suffering a 3-1 loss against the University of Alberta Golden Bears Sat., Oct. 14 and earning a 3-0 victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Sun., Oct. 15.

Saturday's game was marked by poor luck. Adam Onulov made a shot that would've been a superb goal if it had not hit the post--one of many missed opportunities on Saturday.

  Men's Soccer: Dinos come out even against HornsPDF files may take a moment to load

The Dinos men's soccer team played two games against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns this past weekend earning a 1-0 victory against the Horns Sat., Sept. 30 at home and suffering a 3-2 loss Sun., Oct. 1 in Lethbridge.

Second-year social sciences student Nate Heywood received a yellow card for the Dinos under the pretext of a deliberate handball call. Dinos' fans quickly showed their disapproval of the referee's call as earlier he had overlooked a similar situation concerning a Pronghorns player.
