This past Saturday, the second place Canada West Conference University of Calgary Dinos made their way to the frigid Manitoba capital to face the first place University of Manitoba Bisons. Calgary hoped to take the Bisons off their high horse. Instead the Dinos had their asses handed to them and ended up on the receiving end of a 38–2 spanking from the Bisons.

Calgary gives U of A a lesson in Madden stragegyPDF files may take a moment to load

Last Friday, I felt like I watched two-and-a-half hours of Madden 2003. Our Dinos beat the University of Alberta Golden Bears 26-23 but it felt like a video game. The play calling on both sides was so repetitive I almost expected to see big John Madden sitting next to me in the press box, sipping his caffeine and rattling of something incoherent after each big play.

UBC trips over their own feetPDF files may take a moment to load

Our West Coast rival UBC Thunderbirds flew into town last Friday hoping to get rid of the goose egg filling their 'w' column. UBC lost four close games in a row so their frustration was bound to make them hungry for a win. Unfortunately, their opponent was our U of C Dinos who were just coming off a tough loss and looking to displace their anger somewhere. They accomplished that by handing the T-Birds a 24-18 loss.

Last Friday, the Dinos looked to put a blemish on the Regina Rams perfect 3-0 record by defeating them on home turf. Unfortunately, the Rams had other plans and defeated the Dinos 44-37 in a brutal offensive war.

Mark my words; the Dinos men's soccer season will be as wacky as Michael Jackson's monkey on three teaspoons of LSD.

"When you start four or five rookies a game you're in for an interesting time," reflected Head Coach Andy Gibbs after his troops opened the season with an inspired 2-0 result, followed by a 3-1 beating the next day. "It shows we have a long way to go."

This past Sunday our pigskin pride, our warriors of the gridiron, our U of C Dinos were visiting Edmonton to square off against their bitter rivals--the University of Alberta Golden Bears. In the first battle of Alberta of the season, our Dinos drew first blood by defeating their opponents in the gold and green by a razor thin 28-26 margin.
