Letter: A bunch of cheap bastardsPDF files may take a moment to load

Editor, the Gauntlet,

In the Gauntlet's latest drinking supplement, a reviewer casually references the "snotty smirk" worn by some waitresses in the city. I'd like to mention that if the server is smirking at the Gauntlet staff, it's probably because you tip poorly. (Oh, and calling a "server" a "waitress" probably doesn't help your case.)

Here are three questions for U of C students: 1. Was your summer boring? 2. Did you hang out with the same old buds? 3. Do you feel as though you did nothing?

Letter: The fury of fact checking and an alarming case of copyright activist' bluesPDF files may take a moment to load

Editor, the Gauntlet:

I'd like to correct a couple of points made in your article ["Copyright changes not all about CDs," Sarelle Azuelos, July 17, Gauntlet] about Bill C-61, the bill the government introduced to amend the Copyright Act.

[Re: "The Mighty Wapta," Chris Pedersen, Apr. 3 Gauntlet]

An exhilarating trip indeed, no matter how many times it's done.

Just a couple of quick observations:

1. When you go over Balfour Col, you can practically avoid all crevasses if you hang close to the rock ridge on the left. This is of particular benefit in white-out conditions because it leads almost all the way to Scott Duncan Hut.

Editor, the Gauntlet,

[Re: "Legalize by 2010," Ændrew Rininsland, Apr. 3 Gauntlet]

Canada spends more than twice as much money per person in the Canadian prisons as the USA.

Thus, American prisons are more than twice as bad.

Optimism in your column is based on an opinion that the fascist plutocracy--and fascist police state--are not going to get worse and worse, but somehow, are going become better and better.

Editor, the Gauntlet,

Hilarious to read Ændrew Rininsland's column "Legalize By 2010." [Apr. 2 Gauntlet].

I am a 74-year-old American not holding his breath for legalization in 2010. We simply have too far to go.

Editor, the Gauntlet,

First off, let me just say congratulations to Dr. Dube for getting out of the U of C. It is definitely a sad day for any student who was lucky enough to have him as a teacher.

Letter: A bone-headed decisionPDF files may take a moment to load

Editor, the Gauntlet,

I'm outraged over this bone-headed decision to cut credit card payments for tuition-especially without consulting the Students' Union.

Why not offer a choice? I would gladly pay a $50 to $100 penalty to cover the fee if it meant not having to pay overdraft interest at the bank, or begging for money from friends and family while waiting for my student loan or paycheque. The Air Miles alone would make up for it, not to mention the convenience factor.
