Their music is often fondly described as "raging Celtic bluegrass rock" and those who like it, like it a lot. But this CD is only for those who are into that. Me, I'm really not.

The music is essentially banjo layered on a heavy drum beat and inexplicably awesome lyrics.

Have you sat down, turned on the radio or TV, and actually listened to what they call "rap music?" It seems since mega-producers like the Neptunes and Timbaland exploded into the cortex of the public consciousness, the emcees' been drugged and left to smile at the pretty camera. Jay-Z's debilitating dyslexia reached a zenith with his last album, 50 Cent enunciates as well as Don King after a stroke and Eminem spits corporate-approved inspirational music for children.

Everyone knew the Dinos men's volleyball team had little hope to win against the #2 University of Manitoba Bisons--especially considering the Dinos' less than stellar record thus far. However, it still would have been nice to chalk up at least one game in the win column.

Take solace in the fact that the Dinos are still #10 in the nation, and the Bisons are the defending CIS national champions--but hey, that's loser talk.

This last weekend for the men's hockey squad was one mallet stroke away from a complete gong show. Against the University of Manitoba Bisons, they earned only one of a possible four points and accumulated 99 minutes in penalties over two games, so it is not surprising the Dinos no longer find themselves in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport top 10.

Another weekend, another sweep--this team is finally getting rolling.

After struggling with consistency in the first half of the season, the #1 ranked Dinos women's volleyball team is playing with a little attitude, playing like they know they're the best.

VP External - Robbie SchuettPDF files may take a moment to load

Robbie Schuett ran for Vice-President Events two years ago and lost to Irene Enyedy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear Schuett took any opportunities to become better prepared or more informed to run for the Students' Union a second time around.

Schuett's campaign is full of mission statements and ideological hooks. Phrases like "[Alberta Premier Ralph] Klein can't see past next week," and "[the] government will not dictate the rules" pepper his rhetoric, but carry with them few concrete ideas.

Since the begining of December, Canada's conservative right has supposedly been united even though nobody really believed it. With an election on the horizon, Calgary is experiencing daily bombardments of media coverage on party candidates, oops, I mean candidate, singular.

Mentality of the mobPDF files may take a moment to load

'Are they getting louder or just dumber?'

"Dumber, sir."

That would be Mayor Quimby questioning an aide if the crowd outside his office were as unbelievable as they sounded. They wanted the "Bear Patrol" but didn't want to pay the "Bear Tax." The solution, or perhaps the problem, was too many immigrants keeping taxes too high. Before the first commercial break, the fear/anger wave had hit bears, taxes and immigrants.

Why? Mob mentality.

Election? What election?PDF files may take a moment to load

If you find yourself reading this article, you must surely be aware of an impending election, where the over 30 elected positions on the Students' Union are about to be filled. The big question is: who's going to be the big winner, and who's going to spend the next few months sitting over a bowl of bitter-disappointment-soup, wondering where they went wrong?

Like other members of his Action Party slate, Mark Scholz is a candidate born out of frustration and bent on change, bringing little experience. He is also a candidate perhaps running for the wrong position.
