Talent

Too much. The recruiting and education processes this season were stellar. Returning hot-shots such as the all-knowing Chris Wright, the all-speedy Josh Feist and the all-defensive Brian Finniss not only proved their skills, they helped the newbies realize they had 'em too. Rookies such as Ross Bekkering, Robbie Sihota and Cody Darrah have been mentioned too many times in this newspaper. Seriously. Stop it.

Talent

Sure, you've got your Canada West First-Team All-Star Tanya Hautala, who drained 41 points in one game against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. But there's also rookies Michelle Willson and Courtney Coyle, who led the team in scoring and rebounds on multiple occasions. Their presence will ensure there's no lack of talent on this team for years to come.

By the time we are done university, most of us are thrilled just to get the hell out. Some students, however, enjoy their experience here so much they wish it wouldn't end. One reason students may actually like being here is to take part in the Dinos athletics program.

Tanya Hautala and Katherine Adams have both spent a full five years with the Dinos women's basketball team and have made huge strides.

The Dinos men's basketball team's season was cut short of March Madness. The do-or-die Canada West central division semi-final best-of-three series Feb. 17-19 killed hopes for a miraculous win as the University of Alberta Golden Bears clutched the Dinos' purse of dreams and ran off to Saskatchewan. The weekend brought back painful memories from when the Bears won the central division semi-final on the Dinos' home court last season.

The Dinos women's basketball team began their season with seven returning players--three of them second years--and five rookies. Although this lack of experience didn't show in a strong pre-season, the squad dropped their first four regular season contests.

In Canada West's women's basketball central division, such wonderful cities as Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary are included. Although one might like to think Calgary should come out on top of any list containing these cities, in the topsy-turvy world of basketball, anything goes.

The Dinos men's basketball team defied gravity Feb. 11-12 as they kept their game--along with their playoff hopes--up in the air. While football fans hunkered down with a bowl of Doritos in preparation for the tight, tight pants of Superbowl Sunday, the Dinos men's basketball team stole the Steelers' thunder in another epic battle on the court.

Our men have kept us guessing all season--taking our hopes from the heart of Hurricane Katrina to fish-infested Newfie wharfs--and they dragged us kicking and screaming back to southern Alberta Fri., Feb. 3 to avenge losses to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns suffered earlier this season.

The Dinos women's basketball team kept hopes for clinching the top spot in their division as alive as Bob Barker with a pair of wins against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Feb. 3-4.

The Dinos took control of Friday's game in Lethbridge early and didn't let up. Our ladies were as ferocious as Russell Crowe in Gladiator. They sliced and diced their way to a 60-34 half time lead, shooting a stupefying 76 per cent from the field.
