News Feature: The Masters of Teaching program

  • 5-year combined in certain faculties
  • 2-year after degree
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 out of 4
  • Guaranteed GPA: 3.3-3.5
  • Prerequisite: EDUC 2500, which includes 60 h as a teacher assistant.
  • You must have a good recommendation from an advisor.
  • Major must be a teachable subject.
GPA and Prerequisites
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 out of 4
  • Guaranteed GPA: 3-3.3
  • Prerequisite: 3 years of good standing in an approved faculty.
  • 2-years of good grades in a degree.
  • 2 Practica of 5 weeks and 6 weeks respectively.
  • A 13-week internship which is essentially a full-time teaching position for a semester under a partner teacher
Total In-School Time
  • 20 weeks of 2 days/week observation and some teaching.
  • 12 weeks (1 semester) in classroom in second year.
  • Admit approx. 216/yr.
  • Over 400 apply.

  • Also has quotas per faculty.
Enrolment
  • Admit approx. 400/year.

  • 950-1200 apply.
  • Quotas for each faculty determine how hard it is to get in.
  • 85 per cent of graduates took

  • positions in 2000.
Per Cent of Students Hired No tracking is done, but they are starting this year
  • Offers more actual teaching time than any of the other programs.

  • Advisement ratio is also higher, from 1:6 in the first practicum to 1:10 in the last.
Advantages
  • If you are teaching, you find out in enough time to drop the program and get your money back.

  • More in-school time than other programs.
