Been a Long Time

By Ken Clarke

Just when you thought Stevie Ray Vaughn could never be replaced, along comes Double Trouble with a new CD to confirm that fact. Not that they’re daring to emulate their glory days, but the very name of the band conjures up obvious comparisons.

Double Trouble is now Tommy Shannon (bass), Chris Layton (drums) and a blues-based assortment of guest guitarists, keyboard players and vocalists. The result is a well-performed eclectic blues mix ranging from a gritty cover of Muddy Waters’ "She’s All Right" to the blues funk of their own "Say One Thing."

While the sheer variety of blues styles and guest artists keeps things interesting to any listener, Been a Long Time is not recommended for die-hard fans seeking a Stevie Ray Vaughn fix.
