Men’s Basketball

Ain’t life a bitch? In the thick of a playoff battle, the Dinos men’s basketball team, fresh off two losses to the top team in the country, traveled to Burnaby, B.C., to face the Simon Fraser University Clan-the 10th ranked team in the nation.

While the New England Patriots may have pulled a rabbit out of their hats over the weekend, the Dinos didn’t have that "Team of Destiny" feel. They dropped both games.

Despite a balanced attack Fri., Feb. 1-four Dinos put up double figures-the Clan were just that much better topping the Dinos 79–69. Rebounds were a problem, as only Jeff Loomis garnered more than four boards.

Saturday was no better, as SFU held off the U of C 87–78 and pushed the Dinos’ playoff hopes to the brink of extinction. The lone bright spot was John Riad, who came up huge in the Dinos fourth straight loss, scored 34 points and added eight assists in the defeat.

So, it comes down to this-two must-win games against the 9–9 University of Winnipeg Wesmen Feb. 8–9 at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium. It’s a three horse race for the final two playoff spots in the Canada West Conference and considering the fact that the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns tangle with the potent University of Brandon Bobcats, a pair of victories should do the trick. Anything less and it’ll be another disappointing February for our prehistoric heroes.
