Imagine if the Cranberries and Placebo decided to jam together on Janis Joplin’s grave. That might give you an idea of the voice you’re greeted with upon playing jj72’s new album I To Sky. Once the whiny voice grows on you, and it will, the music itself comes to the forefront showing its fairly soft and agreeable side. On the bright side, the band composed all the music and manages to vary itself enough over the course of the album so you can usually tell the difference between the first 20 seconds of any two songs. Also a plus is the fact that all the lyrics are written by the band, and aren’t pop-like in nature. Overall, I To Sky is an easy listening CD with a definite soft tone throughout. If you liked the softer side of the Smashing Pumpkins, you should at least give it a listen.
