Killing Joke

By Ivan Danielewicz

The steady sludge of guitar and harsh vocals are the first things slapping you in the face as you listen to this album. Then, tribal drumbeats are cued, throwing the Killing Joke machine into action. Add two thumping basses to the mix and it’s almost too overwhelming.

Killing Joke’s new, self-titled album is incredibly addictive. The vocals, courtesy Jaz Coleman, switch back and forth over various styles, putting the listener through bliss, while Dave Grohl’s drumming makes the album complete, pushing it to the next level of alternative music. The anger and raw energy that helped make a name for Killing Joke is back, creating an excellent, powerful album.
