Plans for BSD 2005

By Katie Hobday

It’s that time of year again–that special day between end of semester deadlines and unbearable exam stress. It’s time for Bermuda Shorts Day, an entire day devoted to drinking, debauchery, and getting leied.

This year promises to be bigger and better, claims Student’s Union Vice President Events Alex Vyskocil. There will be no shortage of entertainment, with activities both inside and in the outdoor beer gardens.

“We will have four stages in total,” said Vyskocil. “It’s gonna be good.”

The wide variety of entertainment guarantees plenty of fun for teetotalers and booze hounds alike. Main stage acts include The Dudes (“Local rockers, very cool band”), Montreal’s Bedouin Soundclash, eighties cover band Jacuzzi Romance, Calgary’s Small Town DJs, and some belly dancers. A second stage in the beer gardens will feature artists such as Sideshow Sid and Rob Faust. Inside MacEwan Student Centre, two more stages will be set up–one featuring several yet-to-be-announced student bands, the other, karaoke.

If that sounds like more action than a dog and pony show, it is because the SU planned it that way.

“Expect some surprises with our circus theme,” says Vyskocil.

Wristbands are required for entry into the beer gardens and will be available starting Mon., Apr. 11 in MSC North Courtyard from 9 to 5, upon presentation of both proof of age and the student ID.

“One guest per student,” reminds Vyskocil. “And they have to be with you when you get your wristbands.”

BSD is Fri., April 15. The beer gardens will be open from 12 to 5.

“Come early, and don’t drink to hard,” Vyskocil advises. “Make sure you can last the whole day.”
