SU View: New Music on Film Series at That Empty Space!

By Richard Freeman

Sigur Ros are playing live in That Empty Space Tue. Jan. 22 at 3 p.m! Well, ok, the world-renowned Icelandic band won’t be making it to Calgary any time soon, but we have the next best thing: Sigur Ros’ new film Heima! The film follows the band as they embark on a free tour of their native Iceland playing venues as small as a coffee shop and as large as an outdoor canyon. The film captures a rare glimpse into the life and music of this hugely successful and often misunderstood group.

Sigur Ros’ Heima will be the kick-off for a new “Music on Film” series, a great way to enjoy and learn about the music you love. Films will be screened every Tue. until reading week at 3 p.m. in That Empty Space.

Sigur Ros starts it off on Jan. 22, then Pink Floyd will be playing live on Jan. 29! (film screening of Pink Floyd’s The Wall). February is Black History Month and, along with many other events, there will be two “Music on Film” presentations. On Tue. Feb. 5, none other than DJ Shadow will play Empty Space (DJ Shadow-Live in Tune, On Time). On Tue. Feb. 12, there will be all the best DJs from around the world, Z-Trip, Mix Master Mike, Q-Bert, DJ Premier and more will all be live in That Empty Space when we screen the hugely influential hip-hop documentary, Scratch.

Come down to That Empty Space every Tue. at 3 p.m. from Jan. 22 until Feb. 12. You can sit back on comfy couches, learn about music and see some of the world’s greatest artists perform just for you.
