REM

By James Keller

After the disappointing Up, a low-par follow up to their groundbreaking New Adventures in Hi-Fi, REM have proved that they can still write beautiful music and deep, introspective lyrics in Reveal.

Tracks like "Imitation of Life," the disc’s first single, demonstrate the band’s ability to create complex orchestration that still projects a simplicity that lets the listener relax and sink into the world of REM. Lesser heard tracks like "All the Way to Reno" and "She’s Gonna Be A Star" provide some of the best melodies and vocal harmonies heard in rock in quite a long time.
