Letter: Self indulgencePDF files may take a moment to load

Editor, the Gauntlet,

I was deeply disturbed by all of the posters spread around the university by the Students' Union this week. Given that there are so many candidates who say they want to increase the university's sustainability, why the fuck are so many trees being cut down?

Hey Harvey,

Nice work on the lower floor washroom in Social Sciences. Let's see, you had a month over Christmas, plus almost two weeks prior during exams when it was pretty dead, but oh no, can't do construction then.

Editor, the Gauntlet,

Recently, the prominent scientist Stephen Hawking warned humanity that, "We're acting with reckless indifference to our future on planet earth. It will be difficult to avoid disaster in the next hundred years, let alone the next thousand or million." Some time earlier he said that the "Doomsday Clock advanced to five minutes to midnight." David Suzuki echoes the same words: "We're sleepwalking into the future."

Online Only - Letter: the payoff of educationPDF files may take a moment to load

Editor, the Gauntlet,

The cover story of the Gauntlet caught my attention on a recent brief stop at the University of Calgary. It was 20 years ago that I attended and it doesn't look like much has changed-- students then complained about the rising cost of tuition.

I realize that you need to try to keep the powers that be in check and that any tuition increases are valid.
