Men’s Volleyball

By Chris Johns

In keeping with the holiday tradition, the Dinos men’s volleyball team tried to stuff a bird last weekend.

Heading into the weekend Calgary held an even 5-5 record on the year and were looking to improve with a sweep of the 1-9 chickenhawks from British Columbia. It should have been a no-brainer, but perhaps due to too much turkey (or butter, as the case may be) over the holidays, the Dinos were served up a plate full of disappointment thanks to their fowl friends. The T-Birds dispatched of Calgary in fine fashion Friday night with four sets fury (25-16, 26-24, 18-25, 25-20).

An evening of rest and a chance for reflection brought the return of the true Dinos squad on Saturday. Led by the unquestionable power of Denis Zhukov, Calgary returned the favour to the hosts?throttling them in four (18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-15).

The team returns to the Jack this weekend for Friday and Saturday night matchups with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The Huskies currently hold a solid 84 record after beating the Trinity Western Spartans in straight sets last weekend.

Calgary will have their hands full with the second-ranked team in the nation, but as Dinos Head Coach Greg Ryan has said all year long, "the rankings don’t mean a thing."
