When you hear the words “teen” and “lesbian” in one sentence, you most likely think of girls having pillow fights on the Internet. Unfortunately, it’s just not real life.

Take Emily, the lead character in Lipstick, for example. She is a lesbian still in high school and has a girlfriend, but hasn’t taken those first steps out of the closet.

Telling her high school peers is risky, and she has to decide between her friends or her girlfriend. Lipstick is a story about how impossible it is to predict people’s reactions when it comes to dealing with gays and lesbians.

The film shows the emotional struggle Emily is faced with, yet seems to be resolved a little too quickly. Lipstick would fit in with other short films that you watched during junior high health class with a message that is clear and to the point.
